When Food Waste Becomes Treasure: PRANA’s New Partnership with Sanimax & Entosystem
At PRANA, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We continuously look for innovative ways to minimize our environmental footprint, recognizing the significant pollution generated by food waste globally.
Despite our rigorous processes aimed at reducing waste to a minimum, some residual food waste remains inevitable at our facility. On average, our production generates approximately one ton of food waste per week, which was previously sent directly to compost. However, we recently discovered an even better way to transform this waste into something valuable.
Thanks to our groundbreaking partnership with Sanimax & Entosystem, our food waste now finds new life as nutritious feed for insect larvae. Yes, you read correctly—oats, chia seeds, and other organic materials that might accidentally fall onto our production floor are being efficiently converted into a sustainable, eco-friendly protein source.
Entosystem utilizes state-of-the-art insect farming technology, positioning itself as a key player in the agricultural circular economy. Their specialized process produces high-value entomological protein and insect-derived flour. This innovative approach not only captures the nutritional value of our food waste but also enhances food safety controls.
The nutrient-rich flour produced by Entosystem primarily serves as animal feed, benefiting poultry and fish farming. Furthermore, their process yields an exceptional organic fertilizer composed of the residual growth medium from black soldier fly larvae. Rich in insect chitin and essential microorganisms, this fertilizer promotes robust plant growth. It can be mixed directly into the soil or applied on its surface for gradual nutrient release. This fertilizer is 100% organic and proudly Ecocert certified.
Through our collaboration with Entosystem, PRANA proudly embraces the principles of zero waste and circular economy, demonstrating our commitment to ecological responsibility and innovative sustainability practices. We are proud to have officially achieved Zero Food Waste status.
